A Getaway to Kansas City

Kansas City, Missouri

October 2021

Trying new things and discovering places. Read what I did in Kansas City in a day.

Things I did in Kansas City

  • The KC Streetcar takes you down on Main Street, Union Station, and the City Market. The Streetcar is free.
  • The Union Station is a historical building. It has exhibitions, attractions, Amtrak, and stores. Also, there is a restaurant called Harvey’s in the middle. You cannot miss it!
  • The City Market has plenty of grocery stores, restaurants, & local goods. You can buy fresh produce, spices, etc.

J. Rieger & Co Distillery

I went to J. Rieger & Co Distillery to experience spirit tasting. The tour costs $5 and tastings cost $15. The distillery has two restaurants, which are Electric Park Garden Bar and The Monogram Lounge. The Electric Bar is open on Thursdays to Sundays. Unfortunately, I went when they were closed. I wasn’t able to experience it. The Monogram Lounge is located on the 2nd floor. Happy Hour is from 3PM-5PM on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Friday’s. I had the KC Ice Water, which has a spice and kick to it. The potatoes are boiled, and the sour cream has a ranch taste. You can get on the slide from the second floor. After you reach at the end of the slide, you will get a sticker. This is my first time going to a distillery, and I learned so much.

The Farmhouse

The Farmhouse is located at The River Market. This is a farm to table restaurant. I went for brunch. I had the Caramel Apple Mimosa, which was a Fall seasonal drink. They put caramel on the rim of the glass. The mimosa tasted so GOOD!I had the Cinnamon Roll. The crust was a bit hard, but the inside was very soft. The cream was very creamy!I had the Eggs Benedict and the Pablo Grits. The Eggs Benedict has ham and Challah bread. The Pablo Grits isn’t your regular grits. They put Mexican spices in there, so it’s different.

Q39

I ate at one of Kansas City’s best barbecue places, Q39. I went to the Midtown location for lunch, so the place wasn’t crowded. I ordered the Berry Lemonade Cocktail with Basil, which was a bit sweet. I had the Certified Angus Beef Brisket, which includes the sliced brisket and burnt ends. I added pull pork. The burnt ends WERE DELICIOUS! They were so juicy and tender. Also, I got A LOT OF FOOD for lunch. Imagine if you went for dinner.

Gram & Dun

Gram & Dun is located in The Country Club Plaza. I went during dinner, and the atmosphere had a nice tone. This will be a great place for a date night, drinks with friends, or a celebration. I had the “D” Cup, and it tasted like sweet candy. I ate the Chicken and Waffles, and it was delicious! If you like something sweet, then you’ll like the chicken & waffles. The red hot candy gastrique makes it sweet and brings more flavor. I recommend trying this.

Cupcake A La Mode

I went to Cupcake A La Mode, which is located at the Country Club Plaza.
I love cupcakes and cakes, so I had to try it out. I ordered the Cannoli, Strawberries & Cream, Raspberry Lemonade, and Red Velvet. My favorite was the Cannoli because of the chocolate chips.

21c Museum Hotel Kansas City Tour

I spent the night at this hotel. This hotel was very cool, unique, and interesting! This hotel had two floors of exhibitions. My favorite exhibitions were the wedding dresses and the bird room. There is a restaurant called The Savoy, which served dinner and Sunday brunch. The luxury room was VERY spacious. The bathroom was nice, and I liked the gold accents.

I was feeling tired and stressed. I decided to go out of town for a break, so I went to Kansas City. Even though, it wasn’t a tropical or an extravagant place, I was able to recuperate. Important message: If you ever need a break, then take it. Do what’s best for your mental health. Do what you have to do to take care of yourself. Put yourself first ❤️!
