Wichita Chronicles: A Chapter of My Life in Kansas

Wichita, Kansas

Residing in Wichita, Kansas for two and a half years, I relocated for a job opportunity. During my time, I made new friends and immersed myself in exploring the city. Dive into the details of my experiences in Wichita, Kansas.

Places to Eat

Homegrown is a very popular brunch restaurant, so I recommend you arrive early because the wait time can be long. I tried the Seasonal Blueberry Pop Tart, and it was very warm and soft. I had the Florentine Benedict, which has spinach, onions, mushrooms, and crumbled bacon, and it had a savory taste. I ordered a side of grits, as well. My meal was really good!

The Belmont

The interior design is very chic and aesthetic. I had the Great Iced Craic. If you like coffee and cocktail, then you’ll like the drink. I had the Morning Sandy, which has Tomatoes, Eggs, Arugula, bacon, and cheese, which is paired with a side of fruit. Also, I had the Cinnamon Roll. The food was delicious.

First Mile Kitchen

I arrived at First Mile Kitchen around 9:30 AM to get a table. The kitchen doesn’t open until 10 AM, so I had the Campfire Cookie, which has marshmallows and chocolate chips. When the kitchen opened, I had The Malt Pancakes and a Mimosa. The Malt Pancakes were very good and delicious! This is a great place to bring family and friends to.

Vora Restaurant European

I went to Vora to try their brunch, and it wasn’t bad. I had the Biscuits and Gravy with a side of waffles, and a Mimosa. I particularly enjoyed the Biscuits and Gravy, as the gravy had a subtle spice flavor, and the addition of sausage enhanced the overall meal.

First Mile Cantine

First Mile Kitchen’s sister restaurant, First Mile Cantine, opened in Downtown Wichita. Unlike First Mile Kitchen, this has a very quick service and a bakery. Also, it is more personable. I ordered the Biscuits & Gravy and H.Y.F.R.. I like First Mile Kitchen better because there is more food selections.

Doma is a Tapas restaurant, which means it serves small plates. I went there for dinner, and everything was delicious. I drunk the Flowers in Bloom and the Brush Fire. I had the Pork Ribs, Pork Belly Bao Buns, and Latin Ramen Noodles. Everything was good, and they give you a good amount of food.

FioRito Ristorante

This is a new Italian Restaurant that opened, and I decided to give it a try. I ordered the All the Places You Go when they put a air bubble on top of the drink, which was unique. I ordered House Sourdough bread with Cultured Butter, Malted Milk Cake, and Chicken Alfredo. The Malted Milk Cake was delightful! The inclusion of ice cream added a sweet flavor to the cake.

Bella Vita Bistro

Bella Vita Bistro is a family owned Italian Restaurant. My waiter gave me complimentary bread with olive oil and vinaigrette dipping sauce. I ordered the Penne Ala Vodka with Chicken, Calamari, and chocolate alcoholic drink. The customer service was phenomenal because my waiter was very attentive. Also, The food was good.

Coffee Shop

Kookaburra Coffee

I went here for breakfast, and I love the restaurant’s interior. The coffee place was so cute. I had the Original Waffle, which has Peanut butter, blueberries, crumbled bacon, bananas, and whipped cream. I had the Lavender Lemonade Homemade Soda, which was really good! Also, the Espresso set. I had an espresso shot, which was really strong, but the Cortado helped balance it out.

Things To Do

Lola Candle Co.

I had such a great time at the Lola Candle Co. You can buy candles, home decor, coffee, and tea. Also, you can sign up for candle making class. I had such a great time making my own candle. I picked out a scent and a candle jar, and give my candle a name. I bought a candle, The Duchess, which smelled so good! Lola was very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. I will bring family and friends with me the next time I want to make candles😊.

I visited two Black-Owned Wineries in Wichita, Kansas. The first winery I went to was Jenny Dawn Cellars. I had a flight of wine, which was $15. I’ve learned that they are half off during Happy Hour. My favorite was the Semi-Rose.
The second winery I went to was the Simply Sangria. They gave me a few samples to try, and I picked the Tropical White.
Both of their wines were delicious, and I will definitely buy some more!
